Welcome Hawks Fans!!
Last season your Atlanta Hawks finished 8th in the Eastern Conference, good enough to qualify for the playoffs. Phillips Arena was rocking as they took the eventual champion Boston Celtics to a deciding seventh game, even though every "expert" picked them to get swept. Even in losing the series they showed not only that they could make the playoffs, but that they should make the playoffs, winning all three games at home.
This season they hope to build on that playoff run. The team is a little different this year, as top reserve swingman Josh Childress jumped ship to Greece, and sharpshooter Salim Stoudamire signed with (and was later released by) the San Antonio Spurs. On the bright side the starters remain intact, and a full season with Mike Bibby at the point should help. Couple him with all-star Joe Johnson, and the Hawks have one of the better backcourts in the game. Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Zaza Pachulia provide the muscle inside. Forward Marvin Williams should see an increase of playing time as the teams 6th man.
This years key additions to watch: G Flip Murray, G/F Maurice Evans and C Randolph Morris
The regular season tips off on Wednesday, October 29th at 7pm as the Hawks visit the Orlando Magic in a Southeastern conference showdown. Phillips Arena welcomes the Philly 76ers for the home opener, Friday, November 1st.
Keep it locked here Hawks fans as we take you through what will hopefully be another magical playoff run.
